Consumer FAQS Before Buying a New TV

Can we clearly notice the difference between 4k and full HD?

In 2008, HD (or, more precisely, 1080p) became the standard for high-definition television (HDTV). 4k is the next step up, and it offers four times the resolution of 1080p. 4k TVs are now on the market, and they offer a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

But 4k HD is a very different thing from 4k UHD or Ultra HD. 4k UHD has 3840 x 2160 pixels, while 4k offers 4096 x 2160. 4k UHD has an aspect ratio of 16:9, while 4k offers 21:9. In 4k UHD, each pixel takes up 1.55 square millimeters, while in 4k each pixel takes up 1.78 square millimeters. The pixels in 4k UHD are still 3840 x 2160 pixels, but the way they look is significantly different. To see the difference, you have to view 4k UHD images at 4k resolution, but most people don’t want to do that.

So for most people, the 4k UHD resolution is just a marketing gimmick, a way for them to say their TVs are bigger and better than everyone else’s. This is a revealing example of the difference between the kinds of numbers we use to describe things. 4k UHD is 1.78 times as clear as 1080p. 4k UHD offers four times the spatial resolution of 1080p.

Is it good to buy a 4k or full HD TV in India?

YES! If you’ll be using streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar, you’ll need 4K.
